Limbaugh: Gay Activists Bullying Christians Over Gay Marriage Caused Drop In Christianity

Rush Limbaugh has the answer to the huge decline in the number of Christians over the past few years: gay people, of course!

One of the most widely talked about news stories this week is the staggering drop in the number of Americans who say they are Christians. From 2007 to 2014, that number dropped from about 78 percent to about 70 percent. 

Rush Limbaugh has the answer to why there are far fewer people willing to identify as Christians today than there were eight years ago.

Gays. And “homosexual marriage.”

According to the thrice-divorced 64-year old right wing Republican radio talk show host, “less than one million gay activists” have been able to “bully and steamroll an entire country” into accepting same-sex marriage, forcing true Christians out into the cold.

“They have left their churches because of social issues and the evolution of their churches to social areas they didn’t want to go and don’t feel comfortable being in,” Limbaugh blasted. “If you look at the evangelical churches, they haven’t lost anything. Their membership is holding pretty steady. Where the message has remained, where the mission has remained the same, where the members of the church don’t think any corruption is taking place. They’re still hanging in there.”

While over the past few years many churches and denominations have begun to accept same-sex marriage, welcoming their LGBT members, and even allowing their ministers to officiate at weddings of same-sex couples, that doesn’t explain why today there are millions of fewer Christians across the country. 

It might (it doesn’t, but hypothetically) explain a drop in church attendance, but a “true Christian” would merely find a church that conforms to their interpretation of the bible. They wouldn’t stop being Christian.

Limbaugh also falsely states the Pew study covers “the Obama years.” In truth, it includes two full years of the George W. Bush presidency, running from 2007 to 2014, but facts and Rush Limbaugh were never very friendly.
