Democrat Martin O’Malley Announces He’s Running For President – How Did Fox News Cover It?

Watch this clip of Fox News reporting on Democrat Martin O’Malley’s announcement that he’s running for president.

Former Baltimore mayor and former Maryland Governor Martin O’Malley, a Democrat, this morning announced he is running for president.

O’Malley, who is clocking in at just one percent among Democrats in the current polls, which show Hillary Clinton at 57 percent and Bernie Sanders at 15 percent, suffers from a lack of national name recognition.

“Today, the American dream seems for so many of us to be hanging by a thread,” he told supporters during his announcement in Baltimore today. “This is not the American dream. It does not have to be this way. This generation of Americans still has time to become great. We must save our country now. And we will do that by rebuilding the dream.”

Among his accomplishments as governor, O’Malley legalized same-sex marriage in 2012, implemented stricter gun laws, raised the minimum wage, and ended the death penalty. He supports a woman’s right to choose, a pathway to citizenship for undocumented immigrants, and expanding Obamacare.

The majority of Americans support his stance on most if not all of those issues – making him far from controversial or especially progressive.

The non-partisan Ballotpedia charts O’Malley as a “moderate liberal,” giving him a 70 percent score on social issues.

Watch how Fox News covered O’Malley’s announcement:

“Extraordinarily progressive,” the Fox News reporter says. “At every turn, there was a nod to one liberal constituency or another.”
