Breaking: Former Tech CEO, Republican Carly Fiorina Announces She Is Running For President

Carly Fiorina, the former CEO of Hewlett-Packard and a former U.S. Senate candidate, has just announced she is running for the GOP nomination for president.

This morning, as expected, Carly Fiorina announced her candidacy for president.

“Yes, I am running,” Fiorina said on ABC’s “Good Morning America” today, joining the growing list of Republican presidential hopefuls. She is the first GOP woman candidate this year, and one of the few ever to attempt to win the nation’s highest office. She also joins Ben Carson, who announced Sunday night, as another Republican presidential hopeful who has never won election to public office.

The 60-year old Texan spent much of her professional life in the technology industry. She was forced to resign as CEO from HP in 2005 after the company lost half its value and thousands of employees, placing her on the list of worst CEOs of all time.

Fiorina then turned her sights to politics.

In 2008 she became an advisor for presidential candidate John McCain’s failed White House bid. In 2010 she ran against Democratic U.S. Senator Barbara Boxer in California but lost. That campaign was marked by her bizarre “demon sheep” ad.

Fiorina has been trying to position herself in recent months as the anti-Hillary Clinton, taking sharp jabs at the former Secretary of State.

“Like Mrs. Clinton, I too have traveled the globe. Unlike Mrs. Clinton, I know that flying is an activity, not an accomplishment,” she told the CPAC crowd earlier this year.

On issues like same-sex marriage, Fiorina in 2010 was very much against it, as seen in this video:

“What you are is God’s gift to you. What you make of yourself is your gift to God,” Fiorina’s new campaign site reads.

Fiorina has been laying the groundwork for a 2016 run for over a year. Last summer she came out swinging against those who claim there is a war on women, calling it “shameless, baseless propaganda.”
