Ben Carson Says President Can Ignore SCOTUS Gay Marriage Ruling (He Should Read Presidential Oath)

Add Dr. Ben Carson to the list of graduates of the Mike Huckabee School of False Constitutional Law.

Now that Ben Carson has declared his candidacy for the Republican nomination for the presidency, he’s getting more and more attention, and quickly revealing just how ignorant he is on so many important issues.

Take his interview yesterday with the right wing news site Newsmax. In response to a question about Republican candidates who don’t focus on social issues, Carson insisted that a person’s religious beliefs make up who they are.

Carson suggested that people of faith think about other people “in a compassionate way,” while others do “whatever” they feel.

Asked what he would do to “preserve traditional marriage,” Carson tried to educate Newsmax viewers on “how the Constitution works.”

“The president is required to carry out the laws of the land,” Carson said. “The laws of the land come from the legislative branch. So if the legislative branch creates a law or changes a law, the executive branch has responsibility to carry it out.”

But Carson then insisted the Constitution “doesn’t say the president has a responsibility to carry out a judicial law.”

Perhaps Dr. Carson should read the Constitutionally-created presidential oath of office.

In Article Two, Section One, Clause Eight, the Constitution states:

Before he enter on the Execution of his Office, he shall take the following Oath or Affirmation:— “I do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will faithfully execute the Office of President of the United States, and will to the best of my Ability, preserve, protect and defend the Constitution of the United States.”

Since the Supreme Court interprets the Constitution and decides how it should be applied, the President, in fact, is constitutionally mandated to observe and adhere to rulings of the Supreme Court, including on same-sex marriage.
