#Promposal: Gay-Straight BFFs Go To Prom, Teen Vogue Is There To Film It All (Video)

The world has been talking about two Las Vegas high school teens, one gay, on straight, who are going to the prom together – watch what it was like!

By now the world has heard about Anthony Martinez and Jacob Lescenski. Anthony is gay, Jacob is straight. Jacob asked Anthony to their high school prom because they’re best friends, and Anthony didn’t have a date.

Not only did Jacob ask Anthony, but he made a huge sign and had their friends hold it up for everyone to see.

“You’re hella gay, I’m hella str8, but you’re like my brother, so be my d8?”

And then Anthony put it on Twitter and the rest is history.

As you can see, that tweet has been favorited over 14,000 times.

Ellen DeGeneres invited the two BFFs onto her show and handed them each a $10,000 check for their education. They’ve been on local TV talk shows, their story has sported  its very own hashtag, #Promposal, and now Teen Vogue has documented their story.

Even though their entire high school, their parents and friends, and seemingly most everyone was hugely supportive, there was one unfortunate event. Anthony’s family tried to get a cake that included the word gay written on it, but a local Walmart refused.

“You’re gay, he’s straight, you’re going to prom, you couldn’t have had a better date,” it was supposed to say. It ended up reading, “You matter, prom kings.”

It’s such a great story about friendship and breaking down barriers and stereotypes. The two teens are heroes, and through it all they’ve been great sports.

Teen Vogue says they “recruited our awesome friends at Topman, rented a limo, and decided to make the guys’ big night even more epic than they initially imagined.”
