‘He Said It Only Happened One Time’: Cop Says Jim Bob Duggar Lied About Josh Molesting Girls

The former state trooper whom Jim Bob Duggar told about his son Josh’s molesting girls says the “19 Kids and Counting” dad lied.

As practically the entire country now knows, Josh Duggar, when he was around 14 years old, sexually molested five girls, according to police reports first published by In Touch magazine. Jim Bob Duggar, the “19 Kids and Counting” patriarch, reportedly consulted church elders, sent Josh to spend a few months with a family friend who builds houses, and later enrolled the teen in dubious Christian counseling.

Then, Jim Bob Duggar consulted with a friend, Joseph Hutchens, a state trooper now serving a 56-year sentence related to child pornography.

But now, In Touch has interviewed Hutchens, and reports that Jim Bob Duggar did not share the full extent of Josh’s actions.

“Hutchens, in his only interview since the Duggar scandal has been uncovered, says that Jim Bob told him about only one incident of molestation and that, in part, is why he decided not to report Josh to the abuse hotline,” In Touch reports today.

“Hutchens said he was told by Jim Bob and Josh that ‘Josh had inappropriately touched [redacted] during the time she was asleep. He said he touched her through her clothing and he said it only happened one time.'”

He said the fact that it was a one-time incident influenced his decision not to report it. “I did what I thought was right and obviously it wasn’t,” he says. “If I had to do it over again, I would have told him immediately I am going to call the hotline and contacted the trooper that worked those cases and have a full report made. I thought I could handle it myself.

The now former state trooper says he would have taken further action had he known the full story.

“I have lost a lot of sleep over it, Hutchens told In Touch. “I am a Christian myself and I worry that something else may have happened. I would be responsible for it, in my opinion, by not reporting it. The young girl should have been my first priority.”

TLC has yet to respond to demands the show be canceled, but advertisers are rapidly dropping their sponsorship of the toxic show.
