Ted Cruz Runs First Ad Of 2016 Presidential Campaign Over Easter Weekend, Because Jesus

You may see an ad for Ted Cruz’s presidential campaign this weekend, and you’ll know it’s his because it will feel like sitting in church.

Preaching “the transformative love of Jesus Christ,” and “God’s blessing,” Ted Cruz has purchased the first ad slots of the 2016 presidential campaign. The ad, below, titled “Blessing,” will run over Easter weekend across the nation during Fox News’ “Killing Jesus,” and in Iowa, New Hampshire, South Carolina and Nevada – early voting states – as voters watch NBC’s “A.D.: The Bible Continues.”

The Washington Post reports the Cruz campaign will spend $33,000 to run the 30-second spot. “Killing Jesus,” adapted from Fox News host Bill O’Reilly’s book of the same name, garnered 3.7 million viewers when it ran on the National Geographic Channel.

The ad features Cruz’s family praying, along with stock footage of children praying, children saying the Pledge of Allegiance, and a soldier returning to his family. It extends Cruz’s religion-based campaign, which he launched at Jerry Falwell’s Liberty University, a Christian college favored by the far right.

On Wednesday, Cruz spoke against same-sex marriage and against Gov. Mike Pence’s decision to “fix” the Indiana Religious Freedom Restoration Act.
