‘I Would Refuse Service To Gay Persons. Homosexuality Is Wrong’ Says Business Owner, A Christian

The owner of a Michigan truck repair shop says he’s a Christian and “would not hesitate to refuse service to an openly gay person or persons” because of his views on religion and morality. That’s just a small part of the rant he unleashed publicly on Facebook.

Brian Klawiter is under fire for a Facebook post he wrote on Tuesday. The owner of Dieseltec, a diesel engine repair shop, he says he is a Christian and it would be hypocritical to not run his business with his personal religious beliefs.

Those beliefs are on full display in his Facebook rant, where he laments what he sees as the declining influence of white conservative men, and “whats left of” his freedom.

“Our rights as conservative Americans are being squashed more and more everyday. Apparently if you are white (or close to it), you have a job, go to church, and own a gun… That translates into racists, privileged, bigot, conspiracy theorist. Too many of us say nothing,” Klawiter complains. 

“Liberals, THEY are the ones that need to learn to ‘co-exist’, THEY are the ones who need to WORK to be ‘equal,'” he insists. 

He then lays down the law – at least for his business.

“I am a Christian. My company will be run in a way that reflects that. Dishonesty, thievery, immoral behavior, etc. will not be welcomed at MY place of business. (I would not hesitate to refuse service to an openly gay person or persons. Homosexuality is wrong, period. If you want to argue this fact with me then I will put your vehicle together with all bolts and no nuts and you can see how that works.)”

Klawiter goes on to defend himself, writing, “I am not racists, you are for assuming I am, however, I am really quick to judge… if it acts like a duck, and quacks like a duck…”

In Michigan, Klawiter has the right to refuse service to anyone for any reason. The law allows him to discriminate against anyone for any reason he chooses. Sexual orientation and gender identity are not protected in the Great Lake State.

Klawiter’s beliefs are fully protected in Michigan, and would be in all states that have enacted so-called “religious freedom” laws, like the ones that sparked outrage in Indiana and Arkansas, but likely, also, in other states that have enacted Religious Freedom Restoration Acts.

And his line in the sand speaks volumes against lawmakers who claim their “religious freedom” bills exist only to protect wedding photographers and cake bakers. All those “religious freedom” laws protect and enable the discriminatory beliefs and behaviors Brian Klawiter is proudly professing.
