NYC Mayor Bill De Blasio To Challenge Hillary Clinton As More Progressive Candidate: Report

A new report claims that NYC Mayor Bill de Blasio will leverage his progressive bona fides against Hillary Clinton in a race to become president.

Does Mayor Bill de Blasio want to be President Bill de Blasio?

We may just find out.

“Mayor Bill de Blasio is positioning himself to be the leftist ‘progressive’ alternative to Wall Street-friendly Hillary Rodham Clinton as the Democratic candidate for president,” an exclusive report in the New York Post today claims, citing “a national party operative.”

With Elizabeth Warren having declared she will not run, many, many times, liberals are looking for a progressive candidate, at least to push Clinton more to the left. Or, to actually win the Democratic nomination.

“De Blasio’s hope, the operative said, is a ‘Draft de Blasio’ movement will develop among progressive activists over the next several months that will lead to the mayor being able to defeat Clinton in the primary elections next year,” the Post claims. It adds that a potential de Blasio White House run would explain the New York City mayor’s surprising refusal to immediately endorse Clinton, who is a long-time family and political friend.

De Blasio was in Iowa with “one of the nation’s most important Democratic communications strategists and the man responsible for the popular ‘Dante’ TV spot that helped get de Blasio elected mayor, said the operative.”

De Blasio was heralded as the nation’s most-progressive mayor when he was elected in 2013.
