Glenn Beck unleashed a paranoid, devoid of reality rant today, predicting America’s Christians will be too afraid to go to church after same-sex marriage becomes legal. Oh, and then there was the ISIS part…
On his Internet radio show Thursday, Glenn Beck performed a magnificent spectacle of paranoia theatre. The Texas-based Mormon warned his listeners that once the Supreme Court makes same-sex marriage legal, within five years half of all Christians in America will stop attending church.
Why?
Not because they support same-sex marriage and not because they oppose their church’s (presumed) opposition to it, but out of fear.
Telling his listeners, “you have to draw the line,” Beck promised, “persecution is coming” if the Supreme Court makes marriage equality the law of the land.
“It is. I mean, serious persecution.”

“Mark my words,” Beck told his co-host. “Here’s my prediction. If gay marriage goes through the Supreme Court and gay marriage becomes fine – and they can put teeth in it so now they can go after churches, like the president’s lawyer says – 50 percent of our churches will fall away. Meaning, the congregations, within five years, the congregations, 50 percent of the congregants will fall away from their church, because they won’t be able to take the persecution.”
“They will not out up, they’ll just say, ‘You know what, I’m not going.’ Because the stigma of going to church will be too much.”
Beck’s co-host, Stu Burguiere, added that people have already been fired from their jobs and fined.
“Mark my words,” he continued, “within five years, 50 percent of the people that you sit next to in church will not be there. And not because, ‘you know what, I think it’s fine,’ because they’ll say, ‘I can’t do that, I’ll lose my job, people are picketing at my house, I just can’t do that.'”
Beck then went into a horrific story about a family killed by ISIS. Was he comparing gays to ISIS? Not exactly although some of his colleagues on the religious right have – but the transition left the idea hanging there.
Beck then swooped back around to the same-sex marriage issue, saying that the family killed by ISIS faced “real persecution.”
After having said that Christians in the U.S. will face “serious persecution” for going to church.
Do none of Glenn Beck’s listeners hear his rants as a cry for help?
