‘Sodomy Is Dangerous’: Local Paper Runs Ad Claiming Kids Are Being ‘Indoctrinated’

An ad in a North Dakota newspaper warns parents their children are being “indoctrinated” into a “lifestyle” of “sodomy.”

A local paper in Minot, North Dakota is reportedly running a fear-mongering anti-gay ad that tells parents their children are being indoctrinated into an unhealthy lifestyle.

“Parents,” the ad’s headline screams, “are youth in America being indoctrinated?”

What parent would ignore an ad like that?

“It appears that even young children are being indoctrinated into a belief system that a lifestyle that includes sodomy is a healthy lifestyle to choose.”

“Are teenagers in America aware that sodomy is dangerous?” it proffers.

The ad does not mention homosexuality specifically, but the word sodomy invokes it in the minds of many.

“It appears that it might not be politically correct for schools to teach that sodomy used to be a felony in all jurisdictions in America because of the serious health consequences,” the ad warns. “Therefore, it could be beneficial for teenagers to view Shocking 2010 CDC Update About Homosexuality on YouTube. Teenagers should be given a right to learn that there are valid health reasons to avoid sodomy.”

This is not the first time this exact ad has appeared in print, or online.

Last year, veteran journalist Andy Birkey at The Column reported the same ad ran several times in the St. Paul, Minnesota, Pioneer Press.

Birkey points to reporting by Minnpost’s Beth Hawkins that finds the group that supposedly placed the ad, Concern for Children, does not exist.

An NCRM reader sent us a photo of the ad via Twitter. We’ll have an update later today – stay tuned.
