Ted Cruz Fundraising Off His Just-Released Statement On Indiana Anti-Gay ‘Religious Freedom’ Law

GOP Presidential candidate Ted Cruz just issued a statement supporting Indiana’s anti-gay “religious freedom” law, so he could fundraise off it.

All hell broke loose the moment Republican Governor Mike Pence signed the Indiana Religious Freedom Restoration Act into law Thursday morning, but it took Ted Cruz four and a half days – just enough time to commission a poll and get results – to come up with a position statement.

The Republican 2016 presidential candidate did just that, issue a statement in support of the Indiana anti-gay law, and immediately turned it into a fundraising pitch.

Yes, Ted Cruz is fundraising off his deep and sincerely held religious beliefs that Americans should be allowed to discriminate against gay people.

“I want to commend Governor Mike Pence for his support of religious freedom, especially in the face of fierce opposition,” Cruz’s statement on a donation page on his campaign website reads. “There was a time, not too long ago, when defending religious liberty enjoyed strong bipartisan support. Alas, today we are facing a concerted assault on the First Amendment, on the right of every American to seek out and worship God according to the dictates of his or her conscience.”

“Governor Pence is holding the line to protect religious liberty in the Hoosier State. Indiana is giving voice to millions of courageous conservatives across this country who are deeply concerned about the ongoing attacks upon our personal liberties. I’m proud to stand with Mike, and I urge Americans to do the same.”

He also urged supporters to “Stand with Ted Cruz by making a donation today,” and posted his statement to Facebook and Twitter:

Unfortunately for the Republican Senator from Texas, most people on social media were not supportive of his call to support anti-LGBT discrimination:
