‘Ungodly Lifestyles’: Pat Robertson Endorses Bills Supporting Religious Right To Discriminate

Pat Robertson says restaurants should serve anyone, but everyone should refuse to endorse or participate in “ungodly lifestyles.”

Pat Robertson on today’s “700 Club” took one viewer to task for suggesting people who discriminate against LGBT people or other sinners are not acting as Christians.

“Why is it necessary for the government to legislate that Christians act like Christians?,” the viewer asked. “When I hear of Christians refusing service to others because they don’t agree with their lifestyle, I hang my head in shame. I picture Jesus looking down from heaven shaking His head saying, That’s not what I meant!'”

Robertson was not pleased.

“You’re really mixed up,” the octogenarian televangelist responded. “We are not supposed to endorse people’s sin.”

Robertson agreed that people should serve anyone in, for example, a restaurant, or a shoe shine shop, regardless if they are “gay or blue or pink or whatever they are.”

But, he continued, a line must be drawn when Christians are asked, “will you please participate in my ungodly lifestyle?”

Robertson said that Jesus would refuse to serve those people too.

“Jesus said, ‘I didn’t come to bring peace, but a sword,'” Robertson said.

“The Apostle Paul said, ‘if somebody gives you meat and doesn’t say anything about it, then you eat the meat,’ but if he says ‘this is meat offered to idols,’ then you don’t eat it because you don’t want to participate in idol worship.”

Robertson continued to scold the viewer, saying he “hadn’t been paying attention.”

Right now, state legislatures across the country are debating and passing laws that would allow anyone to refuse service to anyone else, merely by citing their sincerely held religious beliefs – going well beyond what even Robertson suggested Jesus would support.
