A certified anti-gay hate group today is running an ad in the Washington Post warning Supreme Court justices they had better decide on same-sex marriage in a biblical fashion.
The American Family Association says today it is running a full-page ad in the Washington Post warning the Justices of the U.S. Supreme Court to rule against same-sex couples in its upcoming same-sex marriage case. The ad cautions the jurists that God created marriage, suggesting they had better support the biblical definition. “As you deliberate on marriage, remember whose idea it was in the first place” it reads, in all caps.
The anti-gay hate group’s ad falsely states that marriage “was neither manmade nor created by any law or Constitution,” but was “God’s plan and purpose for civilization.” And it uses the very same argument that has lost in the courts time and time again.
God, it claims, “created man and woman as distinctly separate but inherently compatible; each unique yet sexually complementary – providing both the means for and the ideal relationship within which to raise children from that union.”
The ad takes both a condescending tone to the Justices, and falsely claims that same-sex marriage is a threat to children.
“Will you bend what God designed merely to suit the desires of man, knowing that you do so at the expense of children, perhaps even civilization itself?,” it asks, ridiculously and un-factually.
Also false, the American Family Association ad states “hundreds of millions of Americans from all religions and faith practices…believe only God can define marriage.”
The ad also panders to those ignorant of the basic constructs of law, claiming if the Supreme Court finds a right for same-sex couples to marry, “religious expression about the sanctity and purpose of marriage would now become illicit.”Â
Totally false, and embarrassingly ridiculous.
And, the AFA threatens, in supporting the right of same-sex couples to marry, it would “effectively delegitimize the very power of the court itself to rule justly.”
In other words, the American Family Association is threatening the Supreme Court that handing down a pro-same-sex marriage ruling would be the end of the Court’s legitimacy and power.
Stunning.
On their website, the AFA claims its “message is one of truth.”
Clearly not.
And, of course, the American Family Association is using this ad as a fundraising tool.Â
“Consider making a tax-deductible donation to help cover the costs of the newspaper message and in support of God’s design for marriage.”
Yes, your hard-earned tax dollars are going to pay for this ad.

Yes, the AFA is trying to convince the Supreme Court that only “one-man, one-woman” marriage is acceptable, by using an image painted by Michelangelo, a famous artist who was gay.
