Listen: Ted Cruz Labels 65 Rulings Supporting Gay Marriage ‘A Real Danger To Our Liberty’

Senator Ted Cruz has strong words for the more than 60 rulings made in the past two years that support the freedom to marry.

There have been at least 65 rulings over the nearly two years since the U.S. Supreme Court struck down Section 3 of DOMA as unconstitutional. Ted Cruz this week labeled every single one of them “a real danger to our liberty.”

The Republican U.S. Senator from Texas did not specify to whom “our” refers.

“We have seen judges, and especially the Supreme Court, ignoring the law,” Cruz told WHO radio host Jan Mickelson on Monday. “If the courts were following the Constitution, we shouldn’t need a new amendment, but they are, as you put it quite rightly, ‘making it up’ right now and it’s a real danger to our liberty.”

Sen. Cruz has been an ardent opponent of same-sex marriage.

Last month the Canadian-born 44-year old freshman Senator reintroduced legislation which, among other actions, would strip federal recognition of same-sex marriages, and thus, federal benefits.

And in January, Cruz announced his plan to introduce an amendment to the U.S. Constitution that would prohibit judges from overturning state same-sex marriage bans, as he believes that same-sex marriage isn’t protected under the Constitution.

Sen. Cruz is working closely with political kingmaker David Lane, whose American Renewal Project is run under the auspices of a certified anti-gay hate group, the American Family Association.

On Monday, Right Wing Watch reported that “Cruz told a group of Iowa pastors yesterday that judges who have made decisions in favor of marriage equality are “ignoring their oaths, ignoring the Constitution and legislating from the bench.”
