Anti-Gay Lawmaker: LGBT Activists Sending ‘Death Threats Against Me And My Children’

An Oklahoma State Senator who insists gay people have no right to service, now says LGBT activists are sending death threats to him and his children.

Joseph Silk believes that LGBT people have no right to equal service, and has filed a bill to ensure business owners have the legal authority to discriminate against anyone, citing their deeply held religious beliefs. The language is so sweeping it is a get out of jail free card for discrimination against anyone.

Silk, under fire for the past week after telling the New York Times that gay people “don’t have a right to be served in every single store,” later called LGBT people “this radical, intolerant, movement.”

Now, he is accusing LGBT activists of sending death threats to him and to his children.

The far right website TruthRevolt, founded by Breitbart editor-at-large Ben Shapiro, this week published an interview with Sen. Silk.

“Silk said that since he was quoted in The New York Times Thursday saying homosexuals ‘don’t have a right to be served in every single store,’ he has received hundreds of angry e-mails and phone calls from LGBT activists who believe he is sanctioning discrimination. ‘A couple of them have been death threats against me and my children,’ Silk said.

It is unknown if Silk has filed police reports, but the charges he raises are serious and severe. Any death threat is unacceptable. All should be taken seriously and strong protective measures should also be taken.

Sen. Silk also accuses the Executive Director of Freedom Oklahoma, an LGBT organization, of leaking the name of his father’s business.

“Silk strongly suspects that Stevenson was responsible for leaking the cabin business information shortly after they met in order to encourage activists to send harassing messages,” TruthRevolt states. “Silk said he is ‘very certain’ it was Stevenson because ‘he has family ties to that community in our same industry [and] that is the only way people could know that.'”

Of course, a simple Google search would reveal that information as well.

Freedom Oklahoma’s Executive Director has responded, calling the allegations against him “unfounded and outrageous.”

“First, if Senator Silk has indeed received threats, they should be investigated and prosecuted,” Freedom Oklahoma executive director Troy Stevenson said in a statement. “Freedom Oklahoma is calling on the proper authorities to investigate these alleged threats, immediately. If threats were made, they did not come from us and we will strongly condemn anyone who made them.”

One final note: Why did TruthRevolt publish a photograph of Senator Silk’s children in their report that states they are receiving death threats?

NCRM has opted to not link to the TruthRevolt story out of concern for Sen. Silk’s family.
