Just One Month Away And NOM’s March For Marriage Lists Zero Sponsors Or Speakers
The National Organization For Marriage is proudly promoting its anti-gay March For Marriage, but this year’s is shaping up to be a disaster.
One month from today, thousands upon thousands of anti-gay marriage activists from all over the country will march in the nation’s capital and listen to dozens of speakers preaching the strong message they want to send to Congress and the Supreme Court: “Don’t mess with marriage,” as they like to say.
At least, that’s what the folks at NOM, the National Organization For Marriage, are hoping.
But in reality, if their March For Marriage website and their Facebook page are any indication, the third annual event has yet to secure any speakers and has yet to secure any sponsors.
Â
Both are vital to prove just how relevant NOM still is. That it is this close to April 25 and they have zero sponsors or speakers listed speaks far louder than their event ever will.
NOM is also not promoting this year’s event as heavily as they did last year, which might be a sign of financial challenges for the flailing organization.
NOM calls their March for Marriage “a powerful demonstration to the media, opinion leaders, legislators and jurists that a majority of Americans still stand for marriage as it has been traditionally and historically defined and handed down through the centuries.”
Of course, as every valid poll has shown for years, that’s simply untrue, despite NOM’s claim that a “recent national survey found that 53% of American voters believe that marriage is only the union of one man and one woman, and that 61% of voters ae [sic] opposed to the US Supreme Court forcing state’s [sic] to require same-sex ‘marriage.'”
Last year, the Washington Times sponsored the event, and Rick Santorum and Mike Huckabee were only too happy to show up to speak about the horrors of same-sex marriage. This year, unless they just forgot to update their website, NOM won’t even have those two stalwarts to tout, and the Washington Times is MIA.
The March For Marriage is also a fundraising event. NOM is charging up to $25,000 for the privilege of sponsoring their hate rally.
Given that it’s 2015, no takers yet seems totally unsurprising.
