Brian Brown: Same-Sex Marriage Could Lead To Judges Repealing Second Amendment

National Organization For Marriage President Brian Brown is claiming Americans could lose their gun rights if judges are allowed to make same-sex marriage legal.

Invoking two of the religious right’s favorite topics – gays and guns – but leaving out God, NOM President Brian Brown claimed at CPAC last week that if Americans allow judges to find a right for same-sex couples to marry, they could also find a way to take away their guns.

Speaking with Fox News contributor and religious right talk show activist Sandy Rios, Brown had little trouble working guns into gay marriage.

“We need to stand up against it because if they can do this on marriage, folks who are concerned about gun rights, taxes, anything, if we give the courts the power to rewrite our constitution at will, then we have lost our republican form of government and that’s something everyone should be standing up and saying ‘no we’re not going to accept this,’” Brown said.

Of course, Brown isn’t the first religious right activist to claim that same-sex marriage is a slippery slope to repeal of the Second Amendment.

In 2012, at a NOM event, Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal professed exactly that: “If the court is allowed to impose and write their own laws and their own views, and overturn those that are done by our duly-elected representatives, what’s to stop today’s [indistinguishable]. Tomorrow it may be property rights, maybe it’s Second Amendment rights. We have got to take a stand against judicial activism.”
