Republican Political Strategist: Ben Carson Is ‘Untethered To Reality’ (Video)

Dr. Ben Carson is now getting heat from both the left and the right for his ignorant comments against gay people.

Republican political strategist and author Margaret Hoover on Wednesday told CNN that Dr. Ben Carson is “untethered to reality” after he said just an hour earlier that prison proves people choose to be gay.

Noting that it’s “hard to give a serious analysis” of Carson’s comments, Hoover blasted him, saying “there’s no data” that prison proves people choose to be gay.

That fact was corroborated Wednesday by a former director of the famed Kinsey Institute, and by an expert on prison and sexuality, who labeled his remarks “insane.”

She also said “there’s no way” that Carson, a former pediatric neurosurgeon who has never run for public office, “was going to be elected to the presidency anyway.”

And Hoover insisted Carson’s anti-gay comment “sinks any nomination. If he has looked at any of the polling about where American attitudes are about homosexuality.”

“I am intimately familiar with the Republican base. Fifty percent of Republicans under the age of 50 are in favor of freedom to marry.”

“And another – another 300 incredibly prominent Republicans are about to sign onto a brief for the Supreme Court saying – or making a conservative case for the freedom to marry. There is more and more support for the freedom to marry. Every primary state is going to have marriage by the time we have marriage.”

Hoover, who is married to Daily Beast Editor-in-Chief John Avalon, is also the President of American Unity PAC, which works to elect candidates who support LGBT equality.

Carson Wednesday evening offered an apology that included his belief that LGBT Americans should retain a second-class citizen status.

The video comes via NewsBusters, a far-right media watchdog that ran an article Wednesday titled, “On CNN, Liberal GOP Guest Blasts ‘Untethered to Reality’ Carson on Marriage,” attacking Hoover for her views, and calling her analysis of Carson a “rant.” The article was tagged, “Covert Liberal Activists.”
