‘I Mean, Jesus. God.’: Joe Biden Responds To Ben Carson’s Anti-Gay Comments (Video)

Watch Joe Biden mock Dr. Ben Carson’s ludicrous comments that prison proves being gay is a choice.

Vice President Joe Biden addressed the Human Rights Campaign Friday afternoon, comparing the LGBT civil rights movement to the African-American civil rights movement. “Selma and Stonewall were basically the same movement,” the Democrat told the organization’s annual spring conference attendees. He added that it is “in fact the same basic movement” as the Civil Rights Movement of a half-century ago.

Biden, a possible Democratic presidential candidate, did not shy away from the news Republican Ben Carson made this week, claiming that prisons are proof that people can choose to be gay.

Carson said that “a lot of people who go into prison go into prison straight — and when they come out, they’re gay.”

Biden, a long-time support of LGBT civil rights whose faux pas on “60 Minutes” led to President Barack Obama publicly announcing support for same-sex marriage, had this to say about Dr. Carson’s anti-gay comments:

“Don’t misread the political trends,” the Vice President warned. “Now, every ridiculous assertion from Dr. Carson on – I mean, Jesus. God. Oh, God. I mean, it’s kind of hard to fathom, isn’t it?” Biden said. “But think about the universal ridicule. That wouldn’t have happened two years, five years ago.”

And the Vice President noted that anti-gay “bigots,” despite all the LGBT civil rights progress the country has seen, will never go away completely.

“You’re never going to be able to eliminate the bigots, they’re a small percentage of the population…but they are incredibly smaller and smaller minority.”
