Jon Stewart took on the anti-vaxxers Tuesday on both sides of the aisle, particularly humiliating Chris Christie.
The measles outbreak in the U.S. has been so disconcerting and embarrassing to many that one author in Nigeria was able to exact some mocking revenge on America’s recent Ebola hysteria by expressing faux concern for “the measles-ravaged country America,” hoping “we are screening them before they come to Africa.”
It was perhaps in this vein that Jon Stewart took on “science-denying affluent California liberals,” and Republicans who don’t think vaccinating children is important – or a good idea.
The “Daily Show” pundit showed footage of one California mother who admitted her children have been vaccinated “for the most part.” Stewart interpreted that to mean the same as when he answers his dentist’s question if he’s flossing.
“We live here in Marin County,” the mom says, “which is a liberal place, it’s a well-educated group of people, it’s a thoughtful group of people, and I think if parents are choosing not to vaccinate it’s probably for a reason.”
Stewart was not impressed.
“This is Marin County — they’re not rednecks, they’re not ignorant,” he said. “They practice a mindful stupidity.”
“Look, California, if your crazy wellness ideas only affected you, I’d be fine with that!” Stewart said. “Have all the fair trade organic espresso enemas you want!”
He also took on Rand Paul, and Chris Christie, socking the New Jersey governor with a good dose of his own medicine.
