Watch: Alabama Same-Sex Couple Waiting At Courthouse For Three Days To Wed

Watch as a same-sex couple in Mobile, Alabama waits at the courthouse to marry for three days. The judge has refused to even open his office to marry any couples at all.

The New York Times today published this video of Kim and Regina Gebauer, who have been waiting since Monday at the courthouse in Mobile County, Alabama, to wed. Probate judge Don Davis shuttered his office to all couples, same-sex and different-sex, after Chief Justice Roy Moore directed that no same-sex couples be issued marriage licenses.

A federal judge this afternoon will hear arguments and may rule today on plaintiffs’ request to force Davis to issue marriage licenses to same-sex couples.

The Gebauers concede they could travel to one of about two dozen other counties to wed, but they call Mobile home.

As the camera rolls, a man brings two bags of food for them. “We’re being sustained by strangers!” the Gebauers gleefully announce.

NCRM will report on the hearing and possible ruling later this afternoon – stay tuned!
