UPDATED: Conservative Conference Mixes Up Photos Of Ben Carson And Tim Scott
CPAC, the Conservative Political Action Convention, apparently has made an error in putting the right photo with the right speaker.
CPAC is the right wing political event of the year. Nearly every Republican candidate for president has spoken at the conference since its founding in 1973, including Ronald Reagan – a total of 12 times. Other notables have included George W. Bush, Sarah Palin, Dick Cheney, Mitt Romney, and Rush Limbaugh. This year, Duck Dynasty’s Phil Robertson is to be honored with a free speech award for his anti-gay comments.
Putting together such a huge annual event takes time and coordination, and unfortunately, mistakes are bound to be made.
Washington Post reporter Ben Terris this morning noticed an unfortunate error: the photo for Dr. Ben Carson was mixed up with the photo for Senator Tim Scott.
Whoops… Looks like the CPAC mobile app has confused @SenatorTimScott for @RealBenCarson pic.twitter.com/bevHJRzx0g
— Ben Terris (@bterris) February 25, 2015
Comments on the tweet were numerous, including one that reads, “They can’t even get that simple thing right. Yet they’re gathering around to tell us why POTUS is a failure.” (Click on the tweet’s image to access comments.)
A look at the conference’s iPhone app and website seem to show the error has been fixed, or was on a different platform.
NCRM will bring you highlights from the conference throughout the week and over the weekend – stay tuned.
UPDATE I:
Washington Post’s Jonathan Capehart weighs in:
RT @jonward11: oh dear RT @ComfortablySmug: Dammit, CPAC. This is just embarrassing. pic.twitter.com/AiBaQGVKNz <—- WOW! just WOW!!!

UPDATE II:
Talking Points Memo reports that CPAC is claiming the image was photoshopped, but Washington Post reporter Ben Terris adamantly denies it, saying, “Think what you want about my quality as a journalist. I have no idea how to photoshop.”
