Breaking: Federal Judge Orders Alabama County Judge To Issue Marriage Licenses To Same-Sex Couples

A federal judge has just ordered a Mobile County probate judge to issue marriage licenses to same-sex couples, against the orders of the state Chief Justice.

U.S. District Court Judge Callie Granade has just issued an order to Mobile County, Alabama probate judge Don Davis to begin issuing marriage licenses to same-sex couples. Her order is in direct contrast to one issued Sunday by State Chief Justice Roy Moore. David had stopped issuing all marriage licenses, prohibiting same-sex and different-sex couples from marrying.

Plaintiffs chose Mobile County because it is the largest of Alabama’s 67 counties in which same-sex couples were being prohibited from marrying. It is assumed that with this ruling all other probate judges will begin to obey the law, but plaintiffs can bring suit against them if they refuse.

The order is here.
