Look: Florida Same-Sex Couple Among First To Marry Will Attend State Of The Union Address

Plaintiffs in the Florida same-sex marriage case, Todd and Jeff Delmay have been invited to attend the President’s Tuesday evening State of the Union address.

Todd and Jeff Delmay will be attending President Barack Obama’s State of the Union address tonight, as guests of Democratic Congresswoman Debbie Wasserman Schultz. The couple, from Hollywood, Florida, were among the plaintiffs in Pareto v. Ruvin, which helped secure the freedom to marry for all Florida same-sex couples. They have been together since 2002 and have a young son, Blake.

“When we married last week, little did we know that we’d be spending our honeymoon with our beloved congresswoman, Debbie Wasserman Schultz, at the State of the Union,” said Todd. “We are over the moon with excitement!”

“It is my distinct honor to invite my constituents Todd and Jeff to join me for the President’s State of the Union address at the Capitol next week,” Rep. Wasserman Schultz. said in a statement. “Their bold efforts, along with Equality Florida and the other plaintiff couples, helped turn the page on the legal discrimination of the past and start a new chapter in Florida’s history. I’m looking forward to celebrating their marriage, and highlighting the ongoing effort to achieve equality for all, next week in Washington.”

The Delmays were the second same-sex couple to marry in the Sunshine State on January 5, after Judge Sarah Zabel lifted her stay on her July ruling that struck down Florida’s ban on same-sex couples marrying.
