Catholic League: Paris Terrorism Victims Have Themselves To Blame For Their Deaths

Bill Donohue, president of the Catholic League, floats an olive branch to the religious extremists responsible for the murder of 12 people in Paris at the headquarters of satirical magazine Charlie Hebdo.

Bill Donohue, head of the Catholic League and self-appointed Catholic warrior today released one of his many press releases, this one on the horrific and inexcusable murder of 12 people in Paris, mostly journalists, at the iconic French satirical magazine Charlie Hebdo.

MUSLIMS ARE RIGHT TO BE ANGRY,” in all-caps, he titled it.

Donohue starts out by “unequivocally” condemning the slaughter, but that’s about the extent of his “Christian” charity – or human empathy.

“Killing in response to insult, no matter how gross, must be unequivocally condemned. That is why what happened in Paris cannot be tolerated,” he explains. “But neither should we tolerate the kind of intolerance that provoked this violent reaction.”

The journalists, the satirists, “provoked” their murder, and “we” – whomever that is – should not “tolerate” Charlie Hebdo’s “intolerance”?

Really?

These were journalists who, were this America and not France, were exercising their First Amendment rights – the very same rights that protect Donohue from what in many other countries might be considered a career of hate.

He goes on to attack Charlie Hebdo’s staff, who “have a long and disgusting record of going way beyond the mere lampooning of public figures,” Donohue says, hours after their slaughter – their bodies likely still warm – adding, “this is especially true of their depictions of religious figures. For example, they have shown nuns masturbating and popes wearing condoms. They have also shown Muhammad in pornographic poses.”

Drawing “popes wearing condoms” or “nuns masturbating” or “Muhammad in pornographic poses” is sufficiently “gross” to “provoke” one’s own murder?

Seriously?

“What unites Muslims in their anger against Charlie Hebdo is the vulgar manner in which Muhammad has been portrayed,” Donohue laments. “What they object to is being intentionally insulted over the course of many years. On this aspect, I am in total agreement with them.”

Who, exactly, is “they”? Because the Muslims who have a platform in the U.S. and around the world have denounced and condemned this terror. It’s stunning that Donohue kind of does not.

Donohue goes on to say that “Stephane Charbonnier, the paper’s publisher, was killed today in the slaughter. It is too bad that he didn’t understand the role he played in his tragic death. In 2012, when asked why he insults Muslims, he said, ‘Muhammad isn’t sacred to me.’ Had he not been so narcissistic, he may still be alive. Muhammad isn’t sacred to me, either, but it would never occur to me to deliberately insult Muslims by trashing him.”

Narcissism killed Stephane Charbonnier?

This from the contingent that claims “guns don’t kill people, people kill people.”

It’s time the Pope, and all Catholics, denounce Bill Donohue.
