Breaking: John Boehner Re-Elected As Speaker Of The House Despite Tea Party Attempt

Published

on

John Boehner will retain his Speakership for the next two years, as head of the House of Representatives.

In an open voice-call vote, the House of Representatives just voted to re-elect Ohio Republican John Boehner as Speaker.

Democratic Minority Leader and former Speaker Nancy Pelosi was nominated but there was no expectation she would win again, given the current makeup of the House.

Radical Tea Party representatives, including Louie Gohmert of Texas and Ted Yoho of Florida were nominated as well, in an attempt to overthrow Speaker Boehner. Gohmert had the very outspoken support of Glenn Beck, who told his audience this week that the fate of America was at stake and only Gohmert, an anti-gay, anti-immigration, anti-women activist, could save the nation.

In an apparent attempt at comedy, also voted for were Senators Rand Paul and Jeff Sessions.

But they managed to send a strong message:

And there was some downtime as the votes were being counted:

At least 25 voted against Boehner:

The White House congratulated the Speaker:

In the end, Speaker Boehner is still Speaker Boehner, with all the baggage that entails.

Main tally:

Boehner: 216
Pelosi: 164:
Webster: 12
Gohmert: 3
Yoho: 2

Americans Angered After Photo Appears Showing Trump Kids ‘Lazing About’ at Camp David ‘On the Taxpayer Dime’

Many Americans are responding with anger over a photo tweeted out late Thanksgiving night of President Donald Trump’s adult children sitting around a fire at Camp David, while the president was at the White House.

Since 1942 Camp David has served as a presidential retreat, and is a military installation staffed mostly by members of the Navy and Marines. The Trump children vacationing there requires more service members to work that day.

The photo was tweeted by Dan Scavino, a close associate to the president who first worked for Trump as a caddy, in 1992. Today he is the White House Deputy Chief of Staff for Communications and Director of Social Media.

In the photo are Donald Trump, Jr., who recently tested positive for coronavirus. He appears to be accompanied by his girlfriend, Kimberly Guilfoyle, who battled the virus over the summer. Also present are Ivanka Trump and husband Jared Kushner, Eric Trump and wife Lara Trump, and Tiffany Trump. Two other men are also seated by the fire.

Here’s how some are responding to the Thanksgiving photo.

Trump Is ‘Untethered to Reality’ and His Thanksgiving Rant Proves It: CNN’s Berman

Published

on

CNN host John Berman on Friday lit into President Donald Trump for going on an unhinged Thanksgiving rant about the 2020 election in which he once again falsely claimed that he won.

Berman in particular zeroed in on Trump’s seething anger at Reuters White House correspondent Jeff Mason, who asked the president on Thursday if he’d concede that he lost the election.

“He was yelling at Jeff Mason, who is the most mild-mannered reporter in America, who was asking one of the most obvious questions in America, which is, ‘Will you concede the race that you lost?’” Berman said. “I think it gave a window into where the president is this morning and how untethered to reality he may be.”

Guest Ron Brownstein shared Berman’s assessment and talked about the harm it’s doing to the United States.

“[He’s] doing real damage,” Brownstein said. “You’ve seen the polling: Three-quarters of Republicans now believe the election was stolen. We’ve never seen anything like this, an effort by a president to systemically undermine the results of the election.”

Trump Serves Up Paranoid Election Conspiracy Rant for Thanksgiving: ‘Flick of a Switch Can Change Course of History’

Published

on

President Donald Trump on Thanksgiving broke weeks of refusing to answer questions from reporters, and focusing his anger on Georgia called its Republican Secretary of State “an enemy of the people” while brewing up an insane new conspiracy theory.

After praising GOP Senators in two run-off elections fighting to keep their seats, Trump said he told Kelly Loeffler and David Perdue, “you have a fraudulent system.”

“You have a system where the flick of a switch or the putting in of a new chip can change the course of history.”

He also falsely claimed voting rights advocate and former Georgia House Minority Leader Stacey Abrams had illegally “harvested” 850,000 ballots. In reality, Abrams says 750,000 Georgia voters have requested absentee ballots.
