Breaking: John Boehner Re-Elected As Speaker Of The House Despite Tea Party Attempt
John Boehner will retain his Speakership for the next two years, as head of the House of Representatives.
In an open voice-call vote, the House of Representatives just voted to re-elect Ohio Republican John Boehner as Speaker.Â
Democratic Minority Leader and former Speaker Nancy Pelosi was nominated but there was no expectation she would win again, given the current makeup of the House.Â
Radical Tea Party representatives, including Louie Gohmert of Texas and Ted Yoho of Florida were nominated as well, in an attempt to overthrow Speaker Boehner. Gohmert had the very outspoken support of Glenn Beck, who told his audience this week that the fate of America was at stake and only Gohmert, an anti-gay, anti-immigration, anti-women activist, could save the nation.
Louie Gohmert voted for Louie Gohmert, so it looks like the Palin endorsement paid off.

In an apparent attempt at comedy, also voted for were Senators Rand Paul and Jeff Sessions.
But they managed to send a strong message:

And there was some downtime as the votes were being counted:

At least 25 voted against Boehner:

The White House congratulated the Speaker:
Boehner “has the congratulations of everyone at the White House” for being reelected as Speaker, Earnest says.

In the end, Speaker Boehner is still Speaker Boehner, with all the baggage that entails.Â
Main tally:
Boehner: 216
Pelosi: 164:
Webster: 12
Gohmert: 3
Yoho: 2
