American Family Association: We Keep Bryan Fischer On The Payroll For ‘Diversity’

Despite reports that hate speech merchant Bryan Fischer was fired, today the American Family Association explains why he still has a job and a radio show.

The American Family Association’s president, Don Wildmon, reportedly “fired” Bryan Fischer Wednesday. In fact, Fischer merely lost the titles of spokesperson and director of issue analysis, but he is still their radio show host, he is still employed by and paid by the American Family Association.

LOOK: Unrepentant: Bryan Fischer Was Not Fired From The American Family Association

What has changed is detailed in a letter from the American Family Association’s attorney to the Southern Poverty Law Center.

Citing the American Family Association’s “unity and diversity policy” that “allows a flourishing of Christian thought and expression,” AFA General Counsel Patrick Vaughn claims that “AFA hosts a ‘free speech zone'” for its on-air personalities.

Vaughn then listed a slew of statements that Bryan Fischer has made which the American Family Association “rejects,” at least officially:

AFA rejects the idea expressed by Bryan Fischer that “Free exercise of religion” only applies to Christians. Consequently, AFA rejects Bryan’s assertions that Muslims should not be granted permits to build mosques in the United States;

AFA rejects the ideas expressed by Bryan Fischer that the violent expulsion of Native Americans was divinely ordained and that, “Superstition, savagery and sexual immorality” morally disqualified Native Americans from “sovereign control of American soil.”

AFA rejects the ideas expressed by Bryan Fischer that “we” need to clamp down on immigration because Hispanics are socialist by nature and vote Democratic because it allows them to “benefit from the plunder of the wealth of the United States.”

AFA rejects Bryan Fischer’s characterization of minorities as “people who rut like rabbits.”

AFA rejects the statement by Bryan Fischer that, “Homosexuality gave us Adolph Hitler, and homosexuals in the military gave us the Brown Shirts, the Nazi war machine and six million dead Jews.”

AFA rejects the policy advocated by Bryan Fischer that homosexual conduct should be illegal

AFA rejects the notion advocated by Bryan Fischer that, “We need an underground railroad to protect innocent children from same-sex households.”

AFA rejects Bryan Fischer’s statement that, “If Hillary Clinton becomes president In 2016, she will not only be our first female president, she could be our first lesbian president.”

Attorney Vaughn adds that “in following AFA’s policy of allowing unity and diversity, Bryan will continue to host the Focal Point radio program and continue blogging.”

And the American Family Association also now insists that Fischer’s views are not the views of the American Family Association, despite him drawing a salary from the American Family Association and despite the fact that up until yesterday afternoon Fischer was their official spokesperson.

The Southern Poverty Law Center disagrees.

“The fact that the AFA is continuing to allow Mr. Fischer to host a daily radio show and blog on its website also makes us question the AFA’s sincerity,” SPLC President Richard Cohen wrote today. “Sponsoring Mr. Fischer’s racism, anti-Semitism, and hatred of the Muslim and the LGBT communities in the name of  ‘diversity’ says as much about the AFA as it does about Mr. Fischer.”
