No One Is Born Gay? Hundreds Join In Protest Of ‘Ex-Gay’ Billboard

About 400 people, gay and straight, joined for a photo op protest of a billboard claiming “No one is born gay.”

Hundreds outraged by a billboard promoting junk science and “ex-gay therapy” joined together at the Gay Community Center of Richmond, Virginia yesterday to take a photo and protest. PFOX, Parents and Friends of Ex-Gays, rented the billboard along a busy stretch of I-95, but its message of hate and homophobia has made headlines nationwide.

Terra Courtland, who came to the protest Sunday, told GayRVA she wanted to “show we’re just like everybody else, just trying to raise our kids and live here.” And Jason Coast, a straight ally who also brought his children, added, “If some of us are being discriminated against, then we all are.”

Robyn Bently, Chair of SAGE, told GayRVA, “It’s like we put out the gay-Bat signal, and everyone showed up.”

Bill Harrison, executive director at the Gay Community Center, said, “It was great to see everyone out here for this reason. It’s good to know we can come together, lesbians, gays, bisexuals, transgender people, allies and everything in between, and stand up for whats right.”

There’s been talk of using the photo for a billboard countering PFOX’s hate.
