Breaking: Sony Will Allow Theaters To Screen ‘The Interview’ On Christmas Day

Sony Pictures has changed course, and now will allow theaters to screen the controversial film, “The Interview,” on Christmas Day.

In a strong move supporting free speech, Sony Pictures will allow select theaters to screen “The Interview,” after a week of controversy that even brought an opinion from President Barack Obama.

The Verge is reporting that “Alamo Drafthouse founder Tim League reported the news on Twitter, saying that his theaters would be making tickets available ‘within the hour.’ Earlier today, a movie theater in Atlanta said that it would have screenings of The Interview, too.”

North Korea, or the Sony hackers, threatened acts of terrorism should any theater play the film, leading Sony just days ago to cancel the movie’s release. But Americans are angered that the entertainment giant caved, with supporters of releasing the movie outpacing opponents two-to-one.

“We cannot have a society in which some dictator some place can start imposing censorship here in the United States,” the President said, adding, “I wish they had spoken to me first. I would have told them do not get into a pattern in which you’re intimidated by these kinds of criminal attacks.”

Which leads some to wonder if this was all a ploy.
