Breaking: GOP Congressmen Demand Dropping Of Obama LGBT Executive Order Protections

Two GOP Congressmen are demanding the Department of Labor drop its new rules that are based on President Obama’s executive orders to protect LGBT employees.

U.S. Republican Congressmen Tim Walberg and John Kine are demanding the Department of Labor drop its just-published rules that extend protections to LGBT employees of federal contractors. The rules come after President Barack Obama issued several executive orders this summer mandating protections, once it was clear Congress would not be passing ENDA.

Buzzfeed’s Chris Geidner is reporting the pair made the demand, asking the DOL to halt implementation and instead create a period for public comment to last “at least 60 days.”

“Public comment is essential to all rulemakings,” the two Repubicans wrote in a letter dated Wednesday.

Congressman Tim Walberg has a history of religious extremism. As Right Wing Watch reported this May, Rep. Walberg spoke at the Family Research Council’s “Watchmen at the Wall conference, an event for conservative pastors.”

Quoting from the bible, he warned America is becoming just like the Israelites who had to confess their sins.

“Behold, we are slaves today, and as to the land that you gave to our fathers to eat of its fruit and its bounty, behold we are slaves in it.”

“Does that bring to mind any other great nation in your frame of reference?” he asked.

“Just to jog your thoughts about that possible other nation that this could be a reference to: Slaves to materialism. Slaves to violence. Slaves to pornography. Slaves to debt. Slaves to sexual perversion. Slaves to gluttony. Slaves to drugs and drunkenness. Slaves to pleasure. Slaves to recreation. Slaves to sports. Slaves to selfishness. Slaves to laziness. Slaves to humanism. Slaves to government.”

GOP Congressman John Kline is no slouch in the religious extremism department either.

He was an original cosponsor to a 2010 bill that, as That’s My Congress reported, “would make it a declaration of Congress that ‘it is Religion and Morality alone, which can establish the Principles upon which Freedom can securely stand,’ and would ‘encourage the public display’ of the phrase ‘In God We Trust’ in every public building and in every public school.”

Kline is also the “winner” of Bill Maher’s “Flip My District” award. Take a look at some of his other “accomplishments.”
