Anderson Cooper Went To France And Back Before Realizing He Needed An Emergency Appendectomy

Since last Tuesday Anderson Cooper was in pain, but his Thanksgiving trip to France didn’t get in the way.

Veteran journalist Anderson Cooper has reported from many danger zones throughout the world – in fact, that’s how he got his start. So the CNN anchor wasn’t about to let what he thought was food poisoning stop him from spending Thanksgiving in France.

Cooper “had stomach pains starting last Tuesday when he was in Ferguson covering the protests,” TV Newser reports. “He traveled to France for Thanksgiving and the stomach pains got worse while overseas, but Cooper though it was simply food poisoning. When Cooper landed back in NYC, his doctor told him over the phone that the symptoms appeared to be appendicitis. He immediately went to the doctor’s office and landed in the Emergency Room after a quick exam.”

He underwent emergency surgery Sunday – five days after symptoms first began – and was released yesterday. He’s expected to be back hosting AC360 tonight.

Here’s a recent Instagram post from Cooper, dated November 26, just before Thanksgiving.
