President Barack Obama told voters and non-voters alike today that he has heard their message loud and clear. And he made clear an immigration executive order is still on the table.
President Barack Obama just concluded a press conference focused on yesterday’s Election Day results. He acknowledged the Republican Party had a good day and said to voters, “I hear you.” But he added that he also heard non-voters who didn’t show up – that would be two-thirds of eligible voters – and said he hears them too.
“To everyone that voted, I want you to know that I heard you. To the two-thirds of voters that chose not to participate in the process yesterday, I hear you too.â€
The President was optimistic that he can find common ground and areas of agreement with Speaker of the House John Boehner and likely Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell. Among those he said were tax reform, infrastructure, passing a budget,Â
Stunningly, Pres. Obama said, “I would enjoy having some Kentucky bourbon with Mitch McConnell.”
The President famously quipped at last year’s the White House correspondents dinner, “Some folks still don’t think I spend enough time with Congress. ‘Why don’t you get a drink with Mitch McConnell?’ they ask. Really? Why don’t you get a drink with Mitch McConnell?”
But the President was stalwart he will work on immigration, and keep his promise to sign an executive order.
