In little more than the time it takes to say “yes,” Supreme Court Justice Sonia Sotomayor has granted the State of Kansas’ motion to place a stay on marriage in The Sunflower State.
Late this afternoon Kansas Attorney General Derek Schmidt filed a 106-page motion requesting the Supreme Court stay last week’s decision striking down same-sex marriage.
Justice Sonia Sotomayor has granted a temporary stay, and is requiring responses by 5:00 PM Tuesday, when the ruling allowing same-sex marriages to begin was to go into effect.
Buzzfeed’s Chris Geidner reports “Justice Sonia Sotomayor has issued a stay of the district court’s injunction in the Kansas case until ‘further order’ of Sotomayor or of the full Supreme Court.”
