UPDATE II: First Election Results Include Winning Republicans Mitch McConnell And Nikki Haley

Kentucky Republican Mitch McConnell, the Minority Leader of the Senate, has won re-election. More winners currently reported are all Republicans.

Sen. McConnell (above at CPAC) faced off against Democrat Alison Lundergan Grimes, and estimates via MSNBC put him at a ten-point lead.

Also winning are South Carolina Republican Governor Nikki Haley, who is blocking same-sex marriage in her state, and Tim Scott, the Republican Senator first appointed by Haley, now earning his first election as a U.S. Senator.

McConnell may become the Senate Majority Leader if the GOP takes the Senate tonight and if he can gain support from Republican Senators.

UPDATE I – 7:35 PM ST:
Republican John Kasich has been re-elected as the Governor of Ohio.

Republican Shelley Moore Capito has won election to the U.S. Senate for West Virginia, against Democrat Natalie Tennant. This is the first “pick up” for the GOP in the Senate.

UPDATE II – 8:00 PM EST:
MSNBC projects the GOP retains control of the House and will pick up only a handful of seats.
