Big News: Obama To Address Nation On Immigration, More (Video)

The White House has just announced that President Obama will address the nation live on the immigration issue.

In a clear indication that he meant what he said the day after the election, President Barack Obama will address the nation on immigration Thursday night at 8:00 PM. The president had both affirmed he would act on immigration if Congress refused, and said, “I hear you,” to voters, meaning he would work harder to partner with lawmakers on Capitol Hill.

But before tomorrow night’s speech – which in itself is a departure, as the Washington Post’s Jonathan Capehart noticed:

the President will sit down and break bread tonight with “senior lawmakers,” Washington Post congressional reporter Ed O’Keefe said just now via Twitter:

The President has waited more than a year for Congress, and specifically the House, to fix the nation’s broken immigration laws, while deporting on average 1100 immigrants a day.

Calling it “a step forward in the President’s plan to work with Congress on passing common-sense, comprehensive immigration reform,” the White House blog this afternoon said the President will “ensure that America will continue to be what it has always been: a nation of laws and a nation of immigrants.”

You can watch the President’s speech live here at The New Civil Rights Movement Thursday night at 8:00 PM EST. Return tomorrow to our front page for details.
