NOM Co-Founder: Gay Marriage The Result Of The Breakdown Of Marriage, Children The Victims

One of the co-founders of the National Organization For Marriage spoke strongly about his vision of what marriage is, and how children and same-sex marriage are the victims and result when it breaks down.

Robert P. George is one of the world’s most committed anti-gay activists. He co-founded the National Organization For Marriage (NOM) with Maggie Gallagher, he wrote the Manhattan Declaration – which advocates anarchy rather than acceptance of laws enabling same-sex marriage and abortion – and he is the Vice Chairman of the U.S. Commission on International Religious Freedom (USCIRF). George is also a Princeton professor, a senior fellow at the Witherspoon Institute – the group that funded the embarrassingly flawed Mark Regnerus anti-gay parenting “study,” and sits on an advisory board for a Utah Mormon-owned top newspaper. And that’s just for starters.

Earlier this month, Professor George delivered a lecture at a conservative Christian think tank, the Institute on Religion and Democracy.

George told attendees that same-sex marriage is the result of the breakdown of the “marriage culture,” an imaginary conservative utopia that never actually existed in America, and a concept that Americans long ago rejected.

“Same-sex marriage did not cause the breakdown of the marriage culture,” George announced, but it is “the final abolition in law of the very idea of conjugal marriage that grounds the norms of marriage, that enables marriage to play its social role.”

In other words, marriage was broken before same-sex couples decided they wanted in on it, and now that they’re winning, they’re destroying it.

George adds that he’s in the marriage fight for the children, and because he wants to end poverty. Unsaid, though, George wants to end poverty for all, except gay families.

His fight for an ideal of the institution of marriage isn’t “some abstract moral thing,” George says, it’s a fight for the well-being of children, “who are, in the end, the victims of a culture that throws marriage under the bus.”

Yes, same-sex couple want in on the institution of marriage, while we want to “throw marriage under the bus.”

Just because.

Prof. George explains why he is “in the marriage fight.” He’s in it “to fight for the marriage culture precisely because I want to fight poverty. Because I want young people to grow up with the kinds of material, moral and spiritual advantages that you have only where there’s a healthy marriage culture.”

Gays need not apply.
