GOP Sen. Ted Cruz Says Tim Cook Being Gay Is His ‘Personal Choice’

Tea Party Republican Ted Cruz this morning told CNBC that Tim Cook being gay is a “personal choice” made by the Apple CEO.

Ted Cruz certainly seemed out of his element when he appeared on CNBC this morning. The Texas Tea Party Republican U.S. Senator told the co-hosts that the Tea Party is “focused almost exclusively on financial issues,” which is demonstrably untrue. 

But it was Cruz’s comment on this morning’s news that Tim Cook, the CEO of Apple and one of the most powerful men on the planet, came out in a Bloomberg op-ed, saying, “I consider being gay among the greatest gifts God has given me.”

Cruz’s response (which CNBC did not include in the clip above) was less poetic, and surprisingly, for the son of a preacher, less religious.

“Those are his personal choices, I’ll tell you I love my iPhone,” Cruz said, according to The Hill.

“Listen, Tim Cook makes his personal decisions, and that is his life. My focus is on the constitutional question of who has the authority to make decisions,” Cruz also said.

During the interview, Cruz chose to pretend no state chose to extend marriage to same-sex couples. He falsely claimed that the U.S. Supreme Court, by choosing to not review any same-sex marriage cases, “effectively striking down the laws of 30 states was wrong and it was judicial activism.”

When challenged, Cruz, flustered and stammering, blurted, “Perhaps you are not understanding my position.”

What the Supreme Court did was the opposite of “judicial activism,” because there have been no conflicting rulings at the appellate level.

David Ferguson at Raw Story notes that “Cruz wants to amend the U.S. Constitution to make it impossible for the Supreme Court to overturn state laws denying same-sex couples the right to marry.
