GOP Tries To Prove It’s Not Waging A War On Women With Incredibly Sexist Ad (Video)

In another stunningly tone-deaf attempt to cozy up to women voters, the GOP has released a ridiculously sexist and paternalistic ad.

In an attempt to rebuff charges it is waging a war on women, Republicans have just released an horrific, sexist ad that infantilizes women and compares women voters to women trying to decide on a wedding dress.

The ad sets up an imaginary reality TV show and “compares” Rick Snyder, the Republican governor of Michigan who is running for re-election, to a Democratic challenger, Mark Schauer.

“Candidates are like dresses and it’s really all about which one makes you feel pretty,” Dan Savage writes. “Right, girls?”

There’s little to say, except this ad embodies the way Republicans view women. That both candidates are men and the young bride-to-be is trying to decide on which “man” to choose adds to the ad’s paternalism.

In this tweet that Savage points to, Kyle Weidleman mentions recent GOP war on women stories.

In a story related to the tweet above, The New Civil Rights Movement reported this earlier today: “National Review Writer Thinks Women Who Have Abortions Should Be Hanged.”

Watch the GOP ad:

The ad was paid for by the College Republican National Committee, a group originally part of the Republican National Committee that is now is a separate organization.

UPDATE: Time magazine just called it “the Most Sexist Republican Ad of the Year.”

I rest my case.

Editor’s note: An earlier version of this article incorrectly identified Snyder as the governor of Wisconsin. He is the governor of Michigan.
