Breaking: Wyoming Is Latest State To Have Marriage Ban Struck Down By Federal Judge

A federal district judge just ruled Wyoming’s ban on same-sex marriage is unconstitutional. Here’s what you need to know.

U.S. District Court Judge Scott Skavdahl ruled the State of Wyoming’s ban on same-sex marriage is indeed unconstitutional.

“Preventing a violation of a party’s constitutional rights is always in the public interest,” Judge Skavdahl noted. “The Court is bound to apply and follow Tenth Circuit precedent,” he added.

The case, Guzzo v. Mead, was filed by the National Center for Lesbian Rights and Equality (NCLR).

Buzzfeed’s Chris Geidner reports that Judge Skavdahl “put his ruling on hold until Oct. 23 to provide time for government officials to attempt an appeal if they wish. The ruling could go into effect sooner if government officials inform the court that they do not plan to appeal the decision.”
