Breaking: Supreme Court Restores Same-Sex Marriage In Nevada

Less than six hours after ordering a stay on same-sex marriage in Nevada and Idaho, Supreme Court Justice Anthony Kennedy has lifted his order — but only for Nevada.

It was a stunning order, just two days after refusing to hear any same-sex marriage cases and just one day after the 9th Circuit ruled that marriage bans in Idaho and Nevada were unconstitutional, Supreme Court Justice Anthony Kennedy ordered a stay on the 9th Circuit’s same-sex marriage ruling this morning.

The order was in response to an emergency request from the State of Idaho, but the State of Nevada was all set to begin issuing licenses.

Now, Justice Kennedy has lifted his stay — but only on Nevada. Same-sex marriages in Idaho are still on hold, thanks to Republican Gov. Butch Otter.
