Breaking: Supreme Court Refuses Alaska Request For Stay – Same-Sex Marriage Resumes

The U.S. Supreme Court has refused a request for an emergency stay from the State of Alaska. Same-sex couples can now legally marry.

In a somewhat unexpected move, the U.S. Supreme Court just refused to grant an emergency stay to the State of Alaska. A stay granted by the 9th Circuit now has just expired — granted only to give the Alaska Attorney General time to petition SCOTUS — and marriages in the nation’s largest square mile state can now resume.

Theoretically, we would report they may now begin, but one little town chose to ignore Alaska’s three-day waiting period and allowed a same-sex wedding when the Court struck down Alaska’s ban.

Alaska has the nation’s oldest ban, constructed in 1998.

“The application for a stay presented to Justice Kennedy and by him referred to the Court is denied,” the Supreme Court’s order reads — wording that might hint at the mind of the overall court, or not.
