Breaking: Same-Sex Marriage In Alaska Placed On Hold

Same-sex marriage has been placed on hold temporarily by the 9th Circuit Court of Appeals.

The State of Alaska has won a temporary stay on any further same-sex marriages in Alaska, to give it time to petition the U.S. Supreme Court to stay Sunday night’s ruling that struck down the marriage ban.

Earlier this week, Republican Attorney General Michael Geraghty requested the stay.

If the Supreme Court does not respond to Alaska’s request by noon PDT on Friday, marriages can resume.

The nation’s highest court has often granted these stays.

Republican Governor Sean Parnell wasted no time in announcing he would oppose and appeal the ruling that struck down the marriage ban — and wasted no time using it as a re-election campaign issue.
