A Texas Tea Party U.S. Congressman has proclaimed gay men shouldn’t be in the military because massages make them “vulnerable to terrorism.”
With less than two weeks to election day, the radical right is counting on their representatives in Congress to ensure a greater majority in the House and even a takeover of the Senate. So, it’s “bring on the crazy” time.
Enter Congressman Louie Gohmert, who is best-known for his anti-gay conspiracy theories. Like, comparing people who support same-sex marriage to the “fascist intolerance†demonstrated by the Nazis. Or, his claim that homosexuality is “adultery, it’s sexual relations outside of marriage,”while suggesting that gay soldiers might not be able to “control their hormones to the point that they are [a] distraction to the good order and discipline of the military.”
Or, his opposition to gun control because gay marriage leads to bestiality…
Yesterday, Gohmert — who is not giving up the fight against gays in the military, even if it’s settled law — sought to explain why it is “not a good idea.”
“I’ve had people say, ‘Hey, you know, there’s nothing wrong with gays in the military. Look at the Greeks,'” Rep. Gohmert said. on the Point of View Radio Talk Show. “Well, you know, they did have people come along who they loved that was the same sex and would give them massages before they went into battle. But you know what, it’s a different kind of fighting, it’s a different kind of war and if you’re sitting around getting massages all day ready to go into a big, planned battle, then you’re not going to last very long. It’s guerrilla fighting. You are going to be ultimately vulnerable to terrorism and if that’s what you start doing in the military like the Greeks did … as people have said, ‘Louie, you have got to understand, you don’t even know your history.’ Oh yes I do. I know exactly. It’s not a good idea.”
