Three Charged In Philadelphia Anti-Gay Hate Attack Have Hearing Set For December

The three suspects who have been charged in the Sept. 11 violent anti-gay hate attack in Philadelphia have had their hearing set for December.

Two Philadelphia victims of an anti-gay assault that landed them in the hospital, one with severe injuries to his face and jaw, will be forced to wait at least a few months before the wheels of justice continue to turn.

Philip Williams, Kathryn Knott, and Kevin Harrigan, all charged with aggravated assault, simple assault, recklessly endangering another person (REAP), and criminal conspiracy, were arraigned and released on bond of $50,000 to $75,000 last week.

The two victims, both in their twenties, as are their alleged assailants, are still unnamed.

An attorney for one of the defendants claims his client acted in self defense, and claims the attack was mutual. He’s likened it to a “fist-fight” in which all parties were willing participants, and not as a homophobic assault.

One attorney claimed his client, 24-year old Kathryn Knott, is not anti-gay or homophobic, despite tweets posted to her Twitter account over a period of a few years that strongly suggest otherwise.

A preliminary hearing has been set for December 16, thirteen weeks from today.

That may be just enough time for one of the two victims to speak, should he choose. He was beaten so badly his jaw has had to be wired shut for several months.
