A newly obtained court document reveals the extreme anti-gay hate, abuse, and violence unleashed on a Philadelphia same-sex couple the night of Sept. 11.
Thanks to Victor Fiorillo at Philadelphia Magazine, we can read the sworn affidavit of probable cause that details what is believed to have happened the fateful night of September 11.Â
Kevin Harrigan, 26, Kathryn Knott, 24, and Philip Williams, also 24, have all been charged with aggravated assault, simple assault, recklessly endangering another person (REAP), and criminal conspiracy. They were arraigned and released on bond last week.

The document, below, states that Harrigan called the unidentified same-sex couple “faggots” several times.Â
“A heated argument developed,” the affidavit states, and Philip Williams punched one of the gay men “in the face an undetermined number of times,” causing him to fall to the ground. He then punched the second man in the face, causing him to fall to the ground also.
Kathryn Knott, according to the document, also called the two men “faggots” — “screaming,” the document states — and also struck the second man in the face.
The first gay man, who is identified only as “Complainant #1,” was transported to the hospital “with extensive injuries to his face, including a broken orbital bone, a broken jaw and a deep laceration that required 24 stitches to close.”
At least one of the attorneys defending the three charged suspects is claiming his client acted in self defense.
