GOP Gov. Paves Presidential Road By Appearing With Hobby Lobby Owners At Bible Museum Event

Republican Governor Bobby Jindal is paving his road to the White House by scheduling an appearance with the owners Hobby Lobby at an event supporting the Museum of the Bible.

Just one week ago, The New Civil Rights Movement reported on a new poll that finds Americans want even more religion infused into their politics.

Well, try this one on for size — it’s the stuff that GOP public relations peoples’ dreams are made of.

Imagine a Republican governor from a southern state standing next to the billionaire family owners of Hobby Lobby — who successfully sued the federal government and won a landmark “religious freedom” over abortion case — at a fundraiser for a proposed Museum of the Bible.

Better than a photo op with the Pope — especially for the far, far religious right wing of conservative America.

Could there be a better scenario to pave the road for a Republican presidential campaign? Even Rick Perry, who got the American Family Association to spend a million dollars on his national day of prayer rally at a Texas stadium to launch his failed presidential campaign a few years ago has nothing on Bobby Jindal now.

“According to an aide, Jindal will appear at an event at the Hobby Lobby campus in Oklahoma City Wednesday evening with the Green family in support of the Museum of the Bible, a museum backed by the family planned for Washington, D.C.,” Time magazine reports.

In a commencement address at Liberty University in May, Jindal highlighted the Green family’s fight against the Obama administration, calling the company “nothing less than an all-American success story.”

The event will provide Jindal an opportunity to highlight one of his signature issues, religious freedom, while placing him next to a potential deep-pocketed donor for his likely presidential campaign. In a February address at the Reagan Library in California, Jindal held up the Hobby Lobby as an example of what he terms the Obama administration’s “silent war against religious liberty.”

In June, when the Supreme Court handed down the Hobby Lobby decision — a loss for women, individual religious rights, and the Obama administration — Jindal celebrated by attacking the President.
