Fox News Refuses To Apologize For Joking About Ray Rice Domestic Abuse Video

The folks over at Fox & Friends are refusing to apologize for joking yesterday about the video that shows Ray Rice slugging his then-girlfriend in an elevator.

Yesterday, the gang at Fox News’ morning show, “Fox & Friends,” decided to make light of the disturbing and violent video TMZ released of Ray Rice hitting his then-girlfriend in an elevator.

The hosts felt the strong need to remind their audience that Janay Palmer married Ray Rice after the violent domestic abuse incident. They also quipped that the message” of the video was to “take the stairs,” and that elevators have cameras. At no point did they denounce domestic abuse or display any empathy.

Today, in light of the firestorm their joshing ignited, co-host Brian Kilmeade read a carefully-crafted statement on air. It lasted 12 seconds.

“Comments that were made during this story made some feel like we are taking the situation too lightly,” Kilmeade told viewers. “We are not, we were not. Domestic abuse is a very serious issue to us, I can assure you.”

That was it.

No apology.

Nothing more than, in effect, “You misunderstood us.”

Good to know.
