Catholic League: Gays ‘Can’t Keep Their Pants On,’ May Masturbate In St. Pat’s Parade

The president of the Catholic League is worried that gay men will not be able to remain clothed when marching in next year’s NYC St. Patrick’s Day Parade — he says they’ve “masturbated” during gay pride parades.

In a heated conversation with SiriusXM Progressive Radio’s Michelangelo Signorile, Catholic League President Bill Donohue shared his fears about next year’s St. Patrick’s Day Parade in New York City. Yesterday, organizers of the world’s oldest and largest St. Patrick’s Day parade announced they were lifting their quarter-century ban on gay groups marching in the event.

“The question is, ‘Will the gays behave?’ Gays have been known to take their clothes off in the parade,” Donohue told Signorile. “They can’t keep their pants on sometimes when they march in the gay pride parade.”

Signorile discounted Donohue’s fears, reminding the Roman Catholic who happens also to be Irish, that straight people have been getting drunk, vomiting, and in various states of undress during St. Patrick’s Day parades for years.

“When told,” Signorile writes at the Huffington Post of his interview with Donohue,  that “the St. Patrick’s Day Parade gets quite unruly, with reports of drunkenness, violence and police run-ins each year, with heterosexual people certainly not ‘behaving,’ Donohue insisted that they still ‘keep our pants on,’ though he acknowledged he’s never been to Mardi Gras in New Orleans where many heterosexuals certainly engage in sexual expression, sometimes unclothed.”

Reminded that earlier in the year, he’d dared the organizers of New York’s LGBT Pride Parade to allow him to march behind the Catholic League banner, only to back off when they welcomed him, Donohue said he pulled out when they required him to go to a training session and said, “I don’t do trainings.” He said, however, if he did march, he’d keep his pants on.

“If I went to the gay pride parade,” he explained, “I insist on keeping my pants on. Why would you want me to take my pants off?”

Earlier this year Donohue appeared on CNN to claim that marriage is not about love.
