Breaking: Attorney General Eric Holder To Resign
One of the longest veterans of President Barack Obama’s administration, Attorney General Eric Holder is resigning.
Eric Holder, the nation’s first Black Attorney General, will tender his resignation to President Barack Obama today. He is one of the President’s longest-serving and closest advisors.
63 years old, Holder was born in The Bronx. He has overseen some of the most important civil rights advances in modern times, including his decision to not defend DOMA, the Defense of Marriage Act, in federal court. The New York Times today calls him “the most prominent liberal voice of the administration.”
Attorney General Holder will remain in office until his replacement is confirmed.
His resignation before the November election may be ill-timed, although he had announced plans to leave by the end of this year. He is a particular target for conservatives and the GOP, and confirmation could be fodder for the GOP to get Republican voters to the polls in November to take over the Senate.
